Skrillex ~ Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites

Skrillex's production quality is unmatched. Listen to this album in the highest quality you can find (~320 kbps) and with the best headphones/speakers you can find (for me it's the Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10), and his production will really stand out. Skrillex is incredibly talented and utilizes a highly unique sound. Part of his talent is his ability to draw from all forms of music- Electro, Dubstep, Rap (see: Scatta), Pop (see: Lady Gaga remixes), and his metal (see: The Sadness will never end) background to form an amazing and intense sound.

Girls ~ Father, Son, Holy Ghost Album

The name of this San Francisco band pretty much consolidates every traditional pop song down to its root cause.

The band takes pop roots and branches them out, sometimes elevating them to heavy-metal heights and acid-rock lengths, as on the sprawling "Die," which contains the lines, giddily voiced, "None of us is gonna be just fine / No, we're all going straight to hell tonight."

Alan Jackson ~ The Greatest Hits Collection

Alan's brand of traditional country, with just enough of a contemporary edge to appeal to a modern generation, provides a contrast with the prevailing pop country normally recorded by Nashville's major label singers. This collection contains all his big hits from the early part of his career.

Many of the songs are upbeat, happy songs but I was drawn to his music originally by Here in the real world, a sad song that Alan delivers superbly, which was the title track of his debut album.

M83 ~ Hurry Up We're Dreaming Album

The style employed on "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" feels like the front end of a burgeoning trend. Gonzalez has a keen sense for melody, which paired with his entrenched connection to ambient and techno sounds, creates something akin to hip-hop; a cut-and-paste form of new wave. "Dreaming," like M83's previous outings, is mostly a synth affair, but the band for the first time employs saxophone, acoustic guitar, flutes and strings to give the album a fuller flavor than, say, 2008's extroverted "Saturdays=Youth."

Florence + The Machine ~ Lungs Album

Florence and the Machine is one of those little bands that seeps in under the pop radar, and becomes a sensation based on pure talent. And Florence Welch and Co. produce a solid debut, "Lungs," that blends delicate polished instrumentals and different genres -- there's little splatters of pop, punk and soul woven together, and cemented in place by Welch's lovely voice.

Steve Miller Band ~ Greatest Hits: 1974-1978

If I was Steve Miller, i would have been appalled with the way the record company edited down all of these great tracks. What the heck were you thinking Capitol? Every song is edited even the classics like "the joker" and "jet airliner". The best part of "jet airliner" is the awesome opening guiitar solo, well thanks to Capitol Records they edited most of it out.It sounds terrible.
Don't waste your money on this highly edited album.

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band ~ Live Bullet

How can words convey the electricity swirling around southeast Michigan in 1975 when this lp was recorded at Cobo Hall in Detroit? At 12 I was still listening to AM and "bubblegum" music, but a friend let me borrow a copy of Seger's "Beautiful Loser" and I thought he was " a fox" (the lingo in those days). When the "Live Bullet" lp came out months later, both generations of my family.... parents, aunts, uncles, cousins....everybody had to hear it over and over. It helped that my cousin Debbie had tried to convince us 10 years earlier that Bobby would be a star someday and we hadn't believed her and now we were all eating humble pie (she should have made bets, she'd be rich now!)

Norah Jones ~ Come Away With Me Album

It is not just the timbre of Norah Jones's voice that is mature beyond her 22 years. Her assured phrasing and precise time are more often found in older singers as well. She is instantly recognizable, blending shades of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone without sounding like anyone but herself. Any way you slice it, she is a singer to be reckoned with. Her readings of the Hank Williams classic "Cold Cold Heart" and Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You" alone are worth the price of the CD. Jones's own material, while not bad, pales a bit next to such masterpieces. Jones has all the tools; what will come with experience and some careful listening to artists like J.J. Cale and Shirley Horn is the knack of remaining low-key without sounding sleepy--sometimes less is not, in fact, more.

Coldplay ~ Parachutes Album

"Parachutes" is a really astonishing debut album from the British band Coldplay. "Parachutes" is best described as a mood piece--mellow, melodic, acoustic guitar, mopey at times but ultimately convinced that "Everything's Not Lost."

All the tracks on the album are worth a listen. Highlights include the sublime "Shiver" (truly swoon-worthy), "Yellow" (simply romantic), "Trouble," and the last track, "Everything's Not Lost."

Puscifer ~ Conditions of My Parole Album

Been listening to it on my computer for weeks until the release day..... finally got to buy it and play it on my Bose system in my car and WOW!!!!! It sounds sooooo good. I cannot describe the difference this makes when putting it on a good system.

Do yourself a favor today, buy this album! If you are fans of Tool or APC, you may think some Puscifer's songs are a little strange. But I can tell you there is nothing strange about this album, it's a beautiful and true representation of Maynard's art at it's best. You won't regret it!

Foster The People ~ Torches Album

This is a highly anticipated CD release by the trio of Mark Foster, Cubbie Fink & Mark Ponitus since forming the band Foster The People in the late 2009. This great effort CD release (10 tracks), titled 'Torches' opens with a solid track/gem/stand-out track "Helena Beat" : a techno-pop track with wonderful high pitched vocals & melody. This is my favourite track from this CD & hence the title of my review. "Pumped Up Kicks" is a great 'altered voiced' second track. Other great tracks include "Call It What You Want" (up-tempo track with great vocals & melody), "Waste", "I Would Do Anything For You" (beautiful vocals/keyboard combination) & "Houdini" (a techno-pop-dance track with some interesting whistling sounds). Okay tracks include "Don't Stop (Color On The Walls)", "Life On The Nickel", "Miss You" (rather 'noisy' music track with good vocals) & "Warrant" (up-tempo track with drum/techno sound/bass combination).

Toby Keith ~ Clancy's Tavern Album

When Keith sings, "Don't expect too much and I won't let you down" don't believe him. On this his 15th album, Keith has up the ante again and has set himself a career high standard. After having no top 10 hits from his last disc "Bullets in the Gun" and with no gold albums since 2008's "That Don't Make Me a Bad Guy," Keith has wizened up and have packed this disc with his best music in years. Keith has teamed up with Eddy Raven, Scotty Emerick, Bobby Pinson to craft songs with less predictable storylines and more multi-dimensional characters. In fact, there are no wasted characters in his songs; every character help convey Keith's emotions in very believable capacity.

Sheryl Crow ~ The Very Best Of Album

Yes, the biggest hits ("Strong Enough," "All I Wanna Do," "If It Makes You Happy") are here, and so are some small ones ("Leaving Las Vegas" and "Home"), but bona fide Top 40 hits like "Can't Cry Anymore" and the TERRIFIC "Anything But Down" are completely ignored. And the Grammy-nominated non-album track "I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday" is left off, in favor of non-hit material like "The Difficult Kind."
